What is Brivo?
Brivo develops cloud-based access control solutions and capabilities create the perfect physical security ecosystem to establish a solid foundation for people’s smart space.
My Team:
Design direction: Steve Arrington
Senior Designer: Chris Parties
Product Manager: Rovin Vazirani

Agile Workflow
My Role
Prototyping, Usability Testing, Reiterating
I designed all prototypes and interactions for the features related to smart home services. Conducted usability tests with users in Maze, then iterated the design based on user feedback and data analysis.

Illustration design
Propose to improve the humanized image of the company's products and create illustrations for various products that resonate with Brivo’s visual identity. Approved by CEO, marketing, and product team and adapted in design assets library

Accessibility audit
Examined accessibility of the app, including color contrast and readability. Evaluated the consistency of icons across the products and the consistency of graphics for the company’s website.
Role 1 - UX, Interaction design
Challenge
Brivo Mobile Pass (BMP) is an app that employees and residents can use to open doors without friction. Brivo smart home (BSH) is an app that gives residents access to the entire building (from the garage to the apartment door) and manages their smart apartment amenities. Brvio is planning to integrate BSH functions into BMP to make a unified experience. How can I expand BMP to smart home services that work for multiple personas?

Sketching & wireframing
After discussing with the product manager to confirm the functional requirements, I worked with a senior designer to create some wireframes. I was solely responsible for generating the wireframes for smart home users.
Product Team Review & Wireframe Iteration
We presented the wireframes to the whole product team and collected some critical insights. Then I refined and added more details to the information architecture and did two rounds of wireframe iterations before I created the high-fidelity prototypes.
Refined Information Architecture
Design & Iteration
I followed the visual design system to create the high-fidelity interactive prototype in Figma. I iterated the prototype after each round of feedback sessions, including expert evaluation, in-person user testing, and unmoderated usability test.

Expert Evaluation
After creating the prototype, I presented those to the product and market teams and reviewed the comments they provided together with PM to decide which are considered design requirements. Then I iterated the interfaces and created the interactive prototype in Figma for the user test.
Key Insights from the Team
In-person moderated user testing
To identify strengths and weaknesses and evaluate the usability of the newly redesigned BMP home screen experience. Another senior designer and I tested the interactive prototype with 12 non-customers. All individuals who could be using Brivo Mobile Pass for work or home and either be familiar with using other “access” or smart home apps. Interviews last approximately 60 min.
Key Insights from the Participants
Unmoderated usability test in Maze
To identify any usability problems and determine the participant's satisfaction with the product, we collected qualitative and quantitative data through Maze (A platform for usability tests). I recruited users from the existing Brivo Mobile Pass customer base. The test consisted of two commercial tests and one Smart Home test. Three to Four user journeys were included in each.
Data analysis consideration: Due to the technical issues with Maze, part of the quantitative data resulted in bias and did not take into consideration.

Widget Design
A large user base wants a widget of BMP where they can customize the door they want, and unlock them without opening the app. The current widget design is outdated and not functional sometimes.
